Meet our Osteos

Founder

Dr Rachelle Jackson

Hi, I’m Dr. Rachelle Jackson. I’m an experienced osteopath who is passionate about empowering my patients on their journey to wellness. With a double degree in Health Science and Applied Science (Osteopathy) from RMIT University and a degree in Exercise and Nutrition from Deakin University, I bring a well-rounded perspective to healthcare.

What sets my practice apart is my commitment to truly understanding your unique health needs. My diverse background, including working with elite athletes and as an NDIS support worker, has deepened my understanding of the human body’s resilience and the importance of tailored care. Whether you’re managing chronic pain, recovering from an injury, or simply looking to improve your overall well-being, I believe that every patient deserves care that is specific to their goals and lifestyle.

Communication & Collaboration
Open communication and collaboration are at the heart of my approach, ensuring that your treatment plan aligns with your personal preferences and health goals. I use a wide range of osteopathic techniques, with a focus on those that promote nervous system regulation. I value the connection between the body and mind, understanding how the body’s physiological functions, including the gut-brain relationship, contribute to overall well-being.

My treatment style is flexible, incorporating soft tissue massage, indirect approaches, and active or direct methods. I can easily switch between deep tissue work when needed, and adapt for patients with chronic pain or those who prefer a gentler, more relaxed treatment.

Every treatment plan is uniquely designed to meet your individual needs, with a focus on long-term health and wellness. The number of sessions will depend on your progress, and I’ll be there every step of the way to adjust your plan as needed. I don’t just focus on hands-on treatment—I’ll also guide you with practical advice on diet, lifestyle changes, and exercises to improve your overall well-being.

Position

Dr Zac Foote

I have always been deeply passionate about the medical and allied health fields, and upon discovering osteopathy, I recognised it as the ideal path for me. I am fascinated by the intricate connection between the mind and body and how this relationship significantly impacts overall health and wellbeing. In my practice, I employ a variety of manual therapy techniques, tailoring my approach to each patient’s needs, whether firm or gentle. Additionally, I integrate dry needling and cupping when deemed suitable and appropriate.

I completed my studies at Victoria University, earning a Bachelor of Health Science and a Master of Health Science in Osteopathy. After gaining valuable life and professional experience in Melbourne, I have chosen to continue my journey in Adelaide. Originally I am from the Whitsundays up in North Queensland, so it is safe to say that I am excited to once again be close to some beautiful beaches. If you know of any hidden gems be sure to let me know!

I would say I’m definitely a “chatterbox,” so if you were to ask about my hobbies, my answer would most likely be spending time catching up with friends, whether in person or over FaceTime. Building meaningful friendships is an important part of my life, and I’m excited to continue that here in Adelaide.

What is Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a holistic, hands-on approach to healthcare that focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing a wide range of musculoskeletal issues. It emphasises the interrelationship between the body’s structure and function, using manual techniques such as stretching, massage, and joint mobilisation to improve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance overall well-being.

Osteopaths assess the body as a whole, aiming to restore balance and support the body’s natural ability to heal itself. This approach is commonly used to address conditions such as back pain, joint pain, sports injuries, and postural imbalances.

Your First Consult

During your initial consultation, I’ll take the time to understand your health concerns, medical history, and daily lifestyle. This consultation is designed to establish the right treatment and management plan for you. Depending on the depth of the discussion, we may hold off on using any direct or indirect techniques until the next session.

1. Medical History

We’ll go through some questions to get a complete picture of your health and the thorough approach allows us to create a treatment plan tailored just for you.

2. Physical Exam

A respectful physical exam is needed and may include diagnostic and orthopedic assessments, posture checks, and other evaluations to ensure the most effective care is given.

3. Treatment & management

Your osteopath will now develop a personalised treatment and management plan tailored to your goals and specific condition. This structured approach supports recovery, helps prevent recurrence, and promotes long-term well-being.

You may also receive personalised advice on lifestyle changes and exercises you can do at home to support your recovery.

Osteopathic Techniques

At Tide Osteo, I use a mix of direct and indirect osteopathic techniques that are tailored to your body’s needs. Whether you’re seeking relief from pain, improved mobility, or overall body balance, I have the expertise to create a treatment plan just for you.

Direct Techniques

These involve applying pressure or manipulation directly to the area of dysfunction. The practitioner actively moves the affected tissue towards its barrier of resistance, which may involve stretching or compressing muscles and joints. This approach aims to restore normal function and range of motion.

Indirect Techniques

These techniques involve moving the tissue away from the barrier of resistance. This often means placing the body in a position of ease to reduce tension and facilitate relaxation. The goal is to allow the body to self-correct through a more gentle approach.

Additional Therapies

Dry Needling: This targeted technique focuses on relieving tight muscles and trigger points, offering both pain relief and enhanced mobility. It stimulates the body’s natural healing processes, helping to reduce muscle tension and improve overall function.

Cupping: By applying suction cups to the skin, cupping increases blood flow, reduces inflammation, and helps relax muscles. This technique can also leave temporary marks on the skin, which are a normal part of the healing process and fade within a few days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a direct technique?

  • High-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) thrust or Mobilisations with Impulse: This technique involves a quick, forceful movement to move a joint beyond its normal range of motion. This can help to restore normal joint function and reduce pain and stiffness.
  • Muscle energy technique: This technique involves the use of active muscle contractions and relaxation to help restore normal joint function and reduce pain and stiffness.
  • Strain-counterstrain: This technique involves passive positioning of the affected joint or muscle to help reduce tension and improve function.
  • Articulatory technique: This technique involves gentle, rhythmic movements of the affected joint to help improve joint mobility and reduce pain and stiffness

What is the indirect technique?

  • Functional technique: This technique involves gentle, passive movements of the affected joint or muscle to improve overall function and reduce tension.
  • Balanced ligamentous tension: This technique involves gentle, passive movements of the affected joint, promoting balance and reducing tension in the ligaments surrounding the joint.
  • Myofascial release: This technique involves gentle, sustained pressure and stretching of the affected muscle or fascia, to promote relaxation and reduce tension.
  • Cranial Osteopathy: This technique involves gentle, passive movements of the bones in the skull and spine, intending to promote relaxation and reduce tension in the nervous system.

What to expect during an initial consultation

During your initial consultation, your practitioner will take the time to understand your health concerns, medical history, and daily lifestyle. This consultation is designed to establish the right treatment and management plan for you. Depending on the depth of the discussion, we may hold off on using any hands-on treatment

What should I wear?

Once the osteopath understands your health concerns, they will perform a physical/ functional examination. You may need to remove some outer clothing for a thorough check, but your privacy will always be respected. It’s best to wear comfortable and flexible underwear and clothing.

The osteopath may conduct various tests, including diagnostic, orthopedic, and neurological assessments, as well as check on your movement and posture. This helps them determine the best way to manage your condition.

Do I need a GP referral?

No, GP referrals are not required to make a booking. We do accept Chronic Disease Management (CDM) and the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA).

What is a Chronic Disease Management plan?

The Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan helps individuals with long-term conditions access coordinated care. The process includes:

  1. Eligibility Check – Your GP assesses if you have a chronic condition requiring ongoing care.
  2. Plan Creation – A GP Management Plan (GPMP) is developed to outline your health needs and goals.
  3. Allied Health Support – If needed, a Team Care Arrangement (TCA) allows up to five Medicare-subsidised allied health visits per year.
  4. Referrals & Treatment – Your GP refers you to specialists like an Osteopath for treatment.
  5. Ongoing Review – Your plan is reviewed regularly (every 3–6 months) to track progress and adjust care as needed.

Are there side effects to Osteopathic treatments?

Your osteopathy consult at Tide Osteopathy should not cause excessive discomfort. Your practitioner will ensure you feel as comfortable as possible throughout the treatment.

If you’re new to osteopathy, some techniques may cause short-term discomfort. You might experience mild soreness for a day or two after treatment, similar to post-exercise soreness. If this persists or worsens, please call or email Tide Osteopathy to discuss your concerns

How long do cupping marks take to go away?

Cupping therapy involves placing specially designed cups on the skin to create a vacuum effect, which draws the skin and underlying tissues into the cup which can also leave temporary marks on the skin. These typically fade within a few days.
